El lobo, un maravilloso animal en peligro/Wolf, a wonderful endangered animal

  El lobo (nombre científico “canis lupus”) es un mamífero de la familia de los caninos. Es un animal en peligro de extinción debido al hombre, que lo caza por deporte o por ignorancia.

  Es un animal con un gran sentido de la familia. Viven en manadas organizadas por una jerarquía. La pareja alfa está en lo más alto de la jerarquía. Son los que resuelven las disputas y conflictos entre los demás lobos de la manada. El lobo alfa elige a la que será su pareja de por vida. Normalmente éstos son los únicos que tienen permitido reproducirse, y sus cachorros son cuidados por toda la manada. Por debajo de la pareja alfa están los beta, y por último, el lobo omega, que siempre es el último en comer y los demás lobos a menudo se pelean con él o ella. A pesar de las peleas, los lobos también se demuestran cariño a menudo. Para ellos lo más importante es proteger a su manada (su familia).

 Los lobos antes eran muy abundantes, pero los humanos los han llevado casi hasta la extinción y su territorio se ha visto muy reducido. Tienen muy mala fama entre los humanos, debido en parte a los típicos cuentos con el gran lobo malo. Pero en realidad los lobos no son una amenaza para éstos, pues siempre intentan evitar el contacto con ellos. Tienen miedo de los humanos, y a no ser que le hayan provocado, un lobo no atacaría a un humano. En cuanto al ganado, la mayoría mueren por enfermedades y el lobo es el depredador que menos los ataca, por lo que proteger al ganado es una excusa muy usada pero poco creíble para matar lobos.

 It is an animal with a great sense of family. They live on packs organized by a hierarchy. The alpha pair is on top of the hierarchy. They solve the quarrels and conflicts among the other wolves of the pack. The alpha wolf chooses his life partner. Usually these two are the only ones allowed to reproduce, and the whole pack takes care of their cubs. Below the alpha pair there are the beta wolves, and last, the omega wolf, which is always the last one to eat and the other wolves often fight him or her. Despite the fights, wolves often show affection too. For them, the most important thing is to protect their pack (their family).

 Wolves were once very abundant, but humans have taken them almost to extinction and their territory has been significantly reduced. They have a bad reputation among humans, due in part to the typical tales with the big bad wolf. But actually wolves aren’t a threat to them, since they always try to avoid contact with them. They are afraid of humans, and unless it has been provoked, a wolf wouldn’t attack a human. As to cattle, most die from diseases and the wolf is the predator that attacks them the least, so protecting the cattle is a very used but hard to believe excuse to kill wolves.
